In fact it felt completely airtight"(Boyne 211-212). This quote is implying that they are walking into a gas chamber with a bunch of other prisoners about to be hit by poison gas. In concentration camps the Nazis used gas chambers as a mass murder device to kill many prisoners at a time. The gas chambers used showers to fill the room with carbon monoxide, also known as poison gas, that would fill the prisoner's lungs and slowly kill them. They later pilled up the bodies and threw them into a ditch. This is also authentic, Nazis did use gas chambers to kill hundreds of prisoners at a time during the holocaust.
