"There, sitting at the table, a long way from the other side of the fence, was Shmuel"(Boyne 166) is a quote in the Boy in the Striped Pajamas. This quote is talking about how Shmuel was working inside of Bruno's house. Back in the holocaust were the prisoners inside of camps forced to work outside of the camp? In the holocaust prisoners were forced to perform "slave work" in and out of the concentration camps. For example, they were forced to perform tasks in high rank Nazi soldier's houses sometimes such as cleaning, cooking, and other jobs normally done by maids. They were also forced to work on construction projects, at factories, on farms, or coal mines. This event in the book is definitely accurate and Shmuel could have easily been forced to work in Bruno's house.
